Srinagar, Nov 25: Reacting to the police statement on prisoners, the Hurriyat (G) on Friday termed it a vain attempt to deflect the attention from real issue.
Police yesterday claimed that out of 51 cases only 38 were from Kashmir. It also claimed that majority of the detainees were involved in unlawful activities and have been released on bail except for few cases involving murder and that no minor from Kashmir is detained in any jail.
“Hurriyat has nothing to do with the arrest or release of professional criminals. But the fact remains that over 1000 pro-freedom persons are languishing in jails in and outside Jammu Kashmir where they are subjected to extremely hostile treatment. The government has no answer to the questions of Hurriyat about the continued detention of persons and torture of Kashmiri prisoners in Kot Bhalwal and Amphala jails,” said a spokesman of the amalgam in a statement, adding the police had skirted the matter of Kashmiri detainees’ torture in Kot Bhawlwal and Amphala jails.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat has thanked the people for, what it claimed, observing complete shutdown on Friday ‘despite all efforts by the police to foil the bandh call’.
