Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) on Thursday said the quarrelsome scenes and trading of abuses and invectives by the MLAs in state assembly during recently concluded session had damaged the image of Kashmiris.
“The way media projected these acrimonious and quarrelsome scenes created by the MLAs in Assembly have let people of whole state down,” Hurriyat (G) spokesman quoted Geelani as having said while chairing the meeting of Majlis-e-Shoora (Advisory Council) of the conglomerate here.
The Advisory Council strongly condemned the alleged custodial killing of the National Conference worker, Muhammad Yousuf Shah, terming it a serious crime. “No matter to which party or ideology the victim belonged to, murder is murder, and Hurriyat will condemn it in strong words. The murder has also brought to fore the corruption at large scale which the rulers of state are indulging in,” said the spokesman.
Hurriyat advisory council reiterated its demand that government should ensure the departure of non-state slum dwellers from the state by October 20.
“Although it has been clarified by the government that there is no plan to settle permanently the non-state slum dwellers in the state, their presence in the state has given rise to a serious problem. The majority of these people consist of professional criminals. They are becoming the cause of promoting the use of narcotic drugs and other intoxicating substances in the state. So their expulsion from the state has become inevitable.The government should, therefore, make all arrangements for their departure by October 20, failing which the issue would be taken to peoples’ court to find out away to purge their society of this pollution,” the spokesman added.
“Besides, the state government’s announcement on this issue can’t be taken as credible and final. For, it can’t afford to go against the wishes of New Delhi. It may change its decision any time and take steps to settle the slum dwellers permanently by stealthily providing them state subject certificates as there are reports that non-state Dogri speaking people have been given state subject certificates,” said the spokesman, adding that “New Delhi is trying to tamper with the majority population ratio of Muslims and make Jammu Kashmir a Hindu dominated state to ensure that in case of plebiscite the decision goes in its favour only.”
The advisory council meeting also discussed other issues including Geelani’s continued house arrest and non-release of political prisoners.
Expressing serious concern over the continued house arrest of Geelani, the meeting warned that the Hurriyat could not remain silent if his house arrest continued any more.
