Srinagar: Prof. Bhim Singh, Chairman, JKNPP along with over 100 Panthers Party senior office bearers and district presidents from Kashmir Valley were arrested after a physical assault by hundreds of armed policemen at Lal Chowk - where the Panthers Party had arranged a political meeting.The conclave was planned to initiate a political process in Jammu and Kashmir in support of the ongoing movement to dismiss the NC-Congress government and impose Governor Rule.Prominent among those were also arrested with Prof. Bhim Singh included M/s. Syed Rafiq Shah, MLC, President, Young Panthers, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Kashmir Province President, Masood Indrabi, Vice residents, Maqbool Malik, Mushtaq Ahmed (State Secretaries), Mehbood Illahi, PRO, Shanker Singh, Secretary, Farmers Committee, Sheikh Salim Young Panthers Gneeral Secretary, S. K.S. Bedi, Young Panthers Vice President, District Presidents, Mohd. Yaqoob, Srinagar, Abdul Rashid Ganie, Gandherbal, Jehangir Khan, Ghulam Mohd. Butt (Baramullah), Javed Ahmed Sheikh, General Secretary, Youth Wing, Mr. Dharam Singh, District Secretary, Ghulam Hasan Lone, Sr. Vice Presidents Kupwara, Abdul Rashid Para, District President, Badgam and others.The Panthers Party activists led by Prof. Bhim Singh nearly reached Lal Chowk at 10 a.m. when they were attacked by the State Task Police led by two Senior Superintendents of Police. The encounter with the Panthers Party activists holding the Panthers Party flag with the gun-wielding policemen continued for nearly one hour. Several Panthers Party leaders were injured including Syed Rafiq Shah, MLC, Mr. Farooq Ahmed Dar, Kashmir Province President and Abdul Rashid Ganie, Gandherbal District President.Hundreds of armed policemen have raided Panthers Party Headquarters at Rajbagh where nearly 200 Panthers Party workers were beaten, lathicharged and dragged away to unknown places. Several vehicles of Panthers Party stationed their headquarters were shattered by the police. The curfew was imposed to stop the Panthers Party workers reaching from Anantnag, Baramullah, Kupwara, Budgam, Gandherbal and other areas to join the conclave sponsored by the Panthers Party at Lal Chowk to initiate a political process for the return of democracy and rule of law in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.Panthers Party leaders and activists condemned the assault, and the lathi charge on the Panthers Party leaders at Lal Chowk which they say shows there is no democracy in J&K and the people's universal demand for imposition of Governor Rule is fully justified.There is no report of the whereabouts of Panthers Party Chairman, Prof. Bhim Singh and his senior colleagues, who were taken away in police vehicles from the Lal Chowk before they could address the thousands of people who were waiting to hear Prof. Bhim Singh on his next road map for the redressal of the suffering of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
