SRINAGAR — In a significant move aimed at bolstering the law enforcement apparatus in the region, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir has promoted a total of 716 officials to their next ranks.

According to an official quoted by a local news agency, the promotions were sanctioned following thorough assessments by the Departmental Promotion Committee. This committee was tasked with evaluating the suitability of eligible Constables for elevation to higher ranks, as per ZPHQ Kashmir Order No. 562 of 2024; dated 13-02-2024.

IGP Kashmir, Shri V. K. Birdi, has greenlit the promotions of 716 Constables, all of whom have their tenure and seniority within the Kashmir Zone, to the rank of SgCts (Sub-Inspectors).

IGP Kashmir has extended congratulations to the newly promoted officials and their families, expressing confidence in their ability to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and service to the community.

SRINAGAR — In a significant breakthrough, police have apprehended the primary suspect linked to the killing of two Punjab residents in Srinagar, said IGP Kashmir VK Birdi.

During a press conference at Police Control Room, Inspector General of Police VK Birdi revealed that following the registration of FIR number 08/2024 under sections 302, 307 IPC, 7/27 Arms Act, 15, 16, 20 ULA(P) Act at Police Station Shaheed Gunj, Srinagar, police successfully cracked the case.

The investigation led to the identification and subsequent arrest of the main accused responsible for the attack on the two individuals from Punjab, along with the recovery of the weapon and other incriminating materials.

IGP Birdi elaborated that Srinagar Police, utilizing technical and field analysis, narrowed down suspects and ultimately apprehended the main accused, identified as Adil Manzoor Langoo, a resident of Zaldager, Srinagar.

Investigations revealed Langoo's conspiracy with a handler in Pakistan, who radicalized and motivated him through social media to carry out the attack. The accused, according to the IGP, was supplied the weapon by his handler in Pakistan as part of the conspiracy, and subsequently, urged to execute the attack.

The attack occurred on February 7 when militants targeted two carpenters, both residents of Amritsar, Punjab, in the Shallakdal area of Old City in Srinagar. While one carpenter, Amrit Pal Singh, was killed, the other, Rohit Mashi, sustained critical injuries and succumbed to them the following day.

SRINAGAR — Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone VK Birdhi on Wednesday said that there will be no restrictions on the movement of people on Republic Day and they are welcome to participate in the function.

The IGP Kashmir was talking to reporters on the sidelines of a full-dress rehearsal at Bakshi Stadium Srinagar ahead of the Republic Day function.

In response to a couple of queries, he said that all security measures are in place and police have already coordinated with security agencies to ensure the smooth conduct of the January 26 celebrations.

VK Birdhi said the entire security grid is vigilant and foolproof security arrangements are in place.
