BARAMULLA — An 8-year-old boy tragically died this evening after falling from a swing at tourist resort Tangmarg's Gogaldara village.
The boy, identified as Farhan Shafi, son of Nazir Ahmad Dar from Nasarpora Khag in Budgam district, was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved.
The incident has cast a pall over the popular resort, known for its scenic beauty and recreational facilities.
Farhan's family and friends have been left devastated by the tragedy, as they remember him as a lively and cheerful child.
Meanwhile, the local police are investigating the circumstances leading to the accident, while the local residents mourn the untimely loss of the young boy.
SRINAGAR — The body of a woman was found in the fields of Budgam district, sparking an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
According to a police officer speaking to a local news agency, authorities were alerted on February 14, 2024, following a call to the Police Station Magam reporting the discovery of a suspicious dead body in an open field.
The deceased has been identified as Kulsum Rehman, daughter of Abdul Rehman Lone, a resident of Drung Tangmarg.
A suicide note allegedly implicating a local youth in her decision to end her life due to an alleged affair and subsequent denial of marriage was recovered during a personal search of the deceased.
"Preliminary findings suggest a case of poisoning-related suicide abetted by the youth," the police officer stated, noting that the youth in question has been arrested in connection with the case.
A case FIR number 18/2024 under Section 306 of IPC has been registered at Police Station Magam, with further investigation underway to ascertain the full extent of the circumstances leading to the tragic incident.
BARAMULLA — In a harrowing incident, a 45-year-old man was successfully rescued on Thursday evening after remaining trapped for nine hours in a 35ft-deep well in north Kashmir’s Tangmarg village in Baramulla district.
The incident unfolded when the individual slipped into the well, with the authorities responding swiftly to the distress call, employing specialized equipment and skilled personnel to rescue the individual from the perilous situation.
Officials said that after hours of intense efforts, the rescue team including SDRF, J&K Police and locals in particular managed to rescue the individual identified as Bashir Ahmed Rather from the well.
Rather (45), a father of six children from Karhama Kunzer, reportedly fell into the well in a nearby Dhobiwan locality at around 11 am. After a tense and challenging operation, the man was finally lifted to the surface in an injured condition, they said.

He was rushed to a nearby medical facility for necessary treatment, they added.
Meanwhile, locals hailed the efforts of civil administration, hospital authorities, F&ES, CRPF especially the rescue team including the SDRF, J&K Police and the locals who fought the major rescue operation from the morning.
In the meantime, residents attributed the incident to a perceived lack of adequate water supply from the authorities’ side. "If there would have been enough drinking water supply from the Jal Shakti Department, the incident wouldn’t have happened, these wells are a major source of water to them," they alleged.
During summers, the area relies on a local stream and in winter, the wells are their only source to mitigate the crises. The department has miserably failed to address the water persistent crises in the village, the residents said.
SRINAGAR — Two pilgrims from Kashmir Valley who had gone to Saudi Arabia for Umrah passed away after performing their religious obligation.
The Jammu and Kashmir Association of Hajj Umrah Companies (JKAHUC) said that two Kashmiri pilgrims who have been identified as Ghulam Qadir Reshi of Tangmarg and Misra Banoo of Pulwama passed away after performing religious duties in Makkah.
Ghulam Qadir, 80, died in Makkah while Misra Banoo, 61, passed away after suffering from a severe heart attack on a flight from Jeddah to Delhi.
SRINAGAR — Two Junior Engineers (JEs) and an Inspector of Power Development Department (PDD) were trapped and arrested by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) team at PDD office Tangmarg on Wednesday while taking a bribe of Rs. 2,60,000.
An official told KDC that the arrested three employees of PDD accepted the bribe from a person for the installation of an electric transformer for his Ice Cream factory, situated at Gofabal Kunzer.
The three arrested employees have been identified as JE Munshi Masood Ahmad, a resident of Hubbi Colony Sikh bagh Lalbazar; JE Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, a resident of Watapora Qazipora Pothshahi Baramulla and Inspector Abdul Rashid Bhat, a resident of Wussan Bangil Kunzer.
However, it was also said that an FIR No. 12 of 2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered in the case and an investigation has been taken up.
