SRINAGAR — A man died and a girl was injured after a vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident in Panar village of northern Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Monday, officials said.

Quoting an official, the news agency KNO reported that the accident took place in Panar when the vehicle rolled down into a gorge, resulting in severe injuries to the driver and a girl.

The man identified as Showkat Ahmad Khan of Turkpora, was declared dead on arrival at District Hospital Bandipora, while the girl identified as Umiya Shahnaz of Quilmuqam, sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.

Police have taken cognisance of the incident and started an investigation in this connection.

SRINAGAR — Two teachers lost their lives in a road accident in southern Kashmir's Shopian district on Friday.

An official told the news agency KNO that an accident took place at Largam Shopian when a vehicle hit a motorcyclist.

In the accident, a teacher died on the spot while another was injured. However, the injured was shifted to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The duo has been identified as Riyaz Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Ibrahim Dar of Kundalan Shopian and Sajad Ahmad Shah, son of Ghulam Mohammad Shah of Largam Shopian.

Meanwhile, the local police have taken cognizance of the incident and started an investigation in this connection.

ANANTNAG — Eight members of a family, including five children, died on the spot in a fatal car accident in Daksum area of Larnoo tehsil in Anantnag district on Saturday.

The family, residents of Kishtwar, was travelling in a Maruti Swift car bearing the registration number JK03H9017.

According to the news agency KNT, the accident occurred while the family was en route from Kishtwar via Sinthan Top towards Marwah. The accident happened after their vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a gorge near Aarshun Hut.

The deceased family members have been identified as Imtiyaz Rather, aged 45 years, son of Ghulam Rasool Rather from Kishtwar; Afroza Begum, aged 40 years, wife of Imtiyaz Ahmad Rather from Kishtwar; Reshma, aged 40 years, wife of Majid Ahmad; Areeba Imtiyaz, aged 12 years, daughter of Imtiyaz Ahmad; Aniya Jan, aged 10 years, daughter of Imtiyaz Ahmad; Abaan Imtiyaz, aged 6 years, daughter of Imtiyaz Ahmad; Musaib Majid, aged 16 years, son of Majid Ahmad; and Mushail Majid, aged 8 years, son of Majid Ahmad.

Meanwhile, the local authorities including the police teams have been rushed to the spot who are investigating the cause of the accident.

SRINAGAR — A woman died after being hit by a dumper in Pampore area of southern Kashmir's Pulwama district on Friday, officials said.

An official told the news agency KNO that the dumper hit the woman near Galandar area of Pampore, leaving her critically injured.

He said that the woman, identified as Sameera wife of Bilal Ahmad Dar of Lelhara, was shifted to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Meanwhile, the local police have taken cognisance of the incident.

SRINAGAR — A policeman, who was injured in a road accident and was battling for life in a Srinagar hospital, succumbed to his injuries on Monday morning.

Two days ago, the Head Constable of Jammu and Kashmir Police, was hit by a speeding vehicle in the Malapora Mir Bazar area of Qazigund.

The cop, named Abdul Rashid, had sustained critical injuries and was referred to SKIMS Srinagar from Government Medical College Anantnag.

Hospital sources said that the middle-aged cop succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

It is in place to mention here that the police had already registered a case in this regard.

SONAMARG — Three tourists including two women died while a kid sustained critical injuries after a vehicle, they were travelling in, met with an accident at tourist resort Sonamarg falling under the jurisdiction of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, officials said.

Official sources told the news agency KNT that a Tata Sumo (JK13B-9912) on its way to Zero-Point from Sonamarg skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge near Panimatha spot – located between Bajri Nallah and Captain Mode.

“There were four passengers on board. The driver had a miraculous escape while two women and a man accompanying them died on the spot. A child has been shifted to hospital in critical condition,” they said.

They said the identities of these tourists are being ascertained.

SRINAGAR — A Junior Commissioned Officer was among five soldiers killed when a tank met with an accident, close to LAC near Mandir Morh, in Leh district of Kargil.

Official sources quoted by the news agency GNS said that the incident took place around 3 am and the bodies of all soldiers have been recovered. Further investigation into this incident has been initiated.
