SRINAGAR — A Srinagar court on Saturday convicted a father for sexually assaulting her minor daughter in the year 2021.

After hearing Additional Public Prosecutor Muhammad Maqbool Shah and defence counsel, the Fast Track Court for POSCO, Srinagar, presided over by Aarti Mohan said that the prosecution has established the guilt of the accused beyond a reasonable doubt.

“The prosecution has also succeeded in establishing the offence of sexual harassment also against the accused person,” the court said.

“The accused is accordingly convicted and the file shall come up for arguments on the quantum of punishment on December 11, 2023. The accused, who is currently on bail, be forthwith arrested and sent to Central Jail Srinagar,” reads a judgement, a copy of which lies with the Srinagar-based news agency KDC.

As per the prosecution, the convict was ‘forcing’ her minor daughter into intercourse, using vulgar language, touching private parts and threatening her against disclosing the same to anyone.

The victim had filed the case in Police Station Nowgam in 2021 and after completion of the investigation, a chargesheet under FIR number 95/2021 was presented before the court on August 25, 2021.

SRINAGAR — Jammu & Kashmir Police on Thursday arrested a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) on charges of corruption, extortion and fraud here.

Official sources said that a team of police had searched the residence of DySP Sheikh Aadil Mushtaq in Srinagar two days back.

"To evade arrest, he had jumped out of the house. During searches of a laptop, some incriminating documents, electronic devices etc were recovered from his residence," sources said.

An FIR was lodged against the officer in Police Station Nowgam and he has been arrested today," the sources added.

Meanwhile, a SIT formed under SP South will investigate the case keeping in view its possible serious ramifications, they added.

SRINAGAR — An alleged sex racket was busted in Nowgam area of central Kashmir's Srinagar district on Wednesday.

Sources said that locals informed police about some illegal activities in a house. After receiving the information, police raided the house.

"During the raid, police found some women and men. Police arrested all of those allegedly involved in the sex racket," sources added.

Later, locals requested the police to take strict action against the culprits.

Meanwhile, a senior police official said that he was collecting information regarding the incident.

SRINAGAR — Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday claimed to have busted yet another prostitution racket in Srinagar outskirts by arresting six persons including the main kingpin and a sex worker.

A police spokesman in a statement issued to the news agency KNO said that in continuation of the investigation of the recently unearthed prostitution racket in Bagh-e-Mehtab, which was being investigated under FIR No. 19/23 of Police Station Chanpora, Srinagar Police has busted another prostitution racket in the Nowgam area, in which three persons running the racket have been arrested on the spot including a woman.

The arrested persons include Shabir Ahmed Mir, son of Abdul Rahim Mir of Charlipora Nowgam, who was the main kingpin of the racket; his wife Shazia Shabir Mir, who was operating this prostitution racket along with her husband and Adil Gulzar Hazar, son of Gulzar Ahmed Hazaar of Soura Srinagar, co-accused in running the racket.

In addition to this, a sex worker, a local girl (name withheld) and two customers identified as Nazir Ahmad Malla, son of Ghulam Qadir Malla of Narbal and Irshad Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Nabi Dar of Narbal have been detained as well.

“The investigation is on and more such raids are expected to be made in the coming days. The general public is once again requested to verify the identity of their tenants with the local police station and install CCTVs in their properties. SRINAGAR — The Jammu and Kashmir Police chief, Dilbagh Singh on Thursday attached a police officer after some allegations of 'professional misconduct' against him.

“In view of some allegations of professional misconduct, Adil Mushtaq DySP KPS-155772 (SDPO Nowgam) is hereby attached with the office of Special DG Crime, J&K till further orders,” reads an order issued by DGP.

The order further states that Sumit Kumar Sharma, KPS-185679, DySP PC Srinagar in addition to his own duties shall look after the assignment of SDPO Nowgam.

SRINAGAR — Two militants of Ansar-ul-Gazwatul Hind (AGuH) were killed in an encounter in Nowgam area of Srinagar district on Wednesday evening, police said.

Kashmir Zone Police, as per the news agency KNO informed that an encounter broke out in Nowgam area on specific information generated by police.

Police said that in the ensuing encounter, two militants belonging to AGuH militant outfit were killed.

Meanwhile, quoting Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar, police said that the duo was involved in an attack on a non-local labourer in Pulwama on September 2.

The slain militants have been identified as Aijaz Rasool Najar of Pulwama and Shahid Ahmad alias Abu Hamza.

“Killed terrorists were affiliated with terror outfit AGuH & identified as Aijaz Rasool Nazar of Pulwama & Shahid Ahmad @ Abu Hamza. They were involved in recent terror attack on an outside labourer namely Muneer ul Islam from West Bengal on 2/9/22 in Pulwama,” police tweeted.

SRINAGAR — Three militants affliated with TRF an offshoot of Lashkar-i-Toiba were killed on Wednesday in an encounter with security forces in Nowgam area of Centre Kashmir’s Srinagar district, police said.

A senior police officer told GNS that three LeT militants were killed in an operation at Nowgam.

Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar told GNS that these three militants of LeT were involved in recent killing of Sarpanch Sameer Bhat.

Bhat was critically injured on 9th march as he received two bullets in his chest near his home in Khanmoh. He was immediately shifted to the Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital, where doctors operated him. However he succumbed to his injuries latter.

Earlier on a specific input generated by JK Police, the joint team of Police launched a cordon and search operation in the area.

As the joint team of forces intensified searches towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces triggering off a gunfight.
