SRINAGAR — Security forces recovered two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from a field in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district on Sunday, officials said.

The IEDs -- buried underground in two plastic containers -- were recovered by the security forces from Nehama area of Pulwama district, they said.

The officials said that a bomb disposal squad was summoned and the IEDs were destroyed without causing any damage.

SRINAGAR — A top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander among two militants have been killed in an encounter between security forces and militants in Nehama area of southern Kashmir's Pulwama district on Monday.

A top police officer, quoted by the local news agency Kashmir Scroll, said that two militants including LeT commander Riyaz Ahmad Dar along with his associate have been killed by security forces in Nehama village of Pulwama.

He said that an encounter broke out in the area after security forces — a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF — started a search operation on credible inputs in the area.

As the joint team of forces intensified searches towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight. He said that during the exchange of fire, two militants were killed.

As per the reports from the local news agency GNS, a joint team of police and army launched a cordon and search operation in Nehama village.

As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.

A senior police officer also confirmed the exchange of firing between militants and security forces.

PULWAMA — In an ongoing effort to eliminate the scourge of drugs from society, Pulwama Police took action by booking two notorious drug peddlers under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS Act).

In this connection, formal detention orders from the competent authority were obtained to bring these individuals to justice.

The identified drug peddlers are Imtiyaz Ahmad Ganie, son of Late Wali Mohd Ganie, residing in Chatapora, and Javaid Ahmad Ganai, son of Mohd. Shaban Ganai, residing in Loolipora Nehama.

Both individuals have been linked to multiple NDPS cases registered in various police stations within the district, actively contributing to the promotion of drug addiction by supplying narcotics to the local youth of District Pulwama.

The community members of Pulwama have expressed their appreciation for the proactive role played by Pulwama Police in taking swift action against these notorious drug peddlers.

PULWAMA — Mohammad Yousuf, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Pulwama, spearheaded a grievance redressal initiative, underscoring the commitment of law enforcement to address public concerns in south Kashmir's Pulwama district. Mr Yousuf chaired the event held in Nehama village of Kakapora area, aiming to fortify the rapport between the police force and local residents on Monday.

The gathering, comprising inhabitants from Nehama village and neighbouring areas, availed the opportunity to voice their grievances directly to SSP Mohammad Yousuf.

SRINAGAR — A mentally unsound person was on Sunday found dead in a canal in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Sources told news agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC) that a mentally unsound man identified as Mohammad Anwar Lone, son of Ambir Lone of Nehama area of Pulwama, was found dead in a canal.

Police, in the meantime, reached the spot and recovered the body, they said, adding that the man was missing since April 20 from his home.

The cause of his death is being ascertained, a police officer confirmed to KDC and said that the body will be handed to the family after medico-legal formalities.
