PULWAMA — The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) has announced the launch of a new B.Tech program in Robotics and Automation. Dr Ovais Gulzar, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, highlighted that the curriculum is designed to meet the increasing demand for professionals in automation and Industry 4.0 sectors.

Emphasizing the course's innovative approach, Dr Gulzar stated that it integrates theoretical knowledge with practical applications in robotics, mechatronics, control systems, CNC, 3D printing, industrial automation, and IoT. PULWAMA — The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) has announced the introduction of cutting-edge Master's and four-year Undergraduate programs aimed at students keen on exploring the realms of science and contemporary technology.

Under the auspices of the Schools of Sciences and Technology, these programs are meticulously crafted in alignment with the directives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. PULWAMA — In a significant development aimed at fostering innovation and driving the adoption of Industry 4.0 standards, the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India, to establish the Centre for Industry 4.0 (C4i4) at the university.

The initiative, facilitated by the Ministry of Heavy Industries, is set to establish a premier centre focused on enhancing the competitiveness of Medium and Small Scale Enterprises (MSMEs) in India, particularly in the Jammu and Kashmir region.

The C4i4 is anticipated to catalyze an innovative ecosystem at the university and promote industrial growth through collaborations between the government, the industrial sector, and technology firms.

A delegation from the Ministry of Heavy Industries and C4i4, Pune, led by Director Shri Dattatraya Navalgundkar and Head of Operations Dr Rajesh Pahadi, visited IUST to formalize the establishment of the Center. IUST was chosen for this prestigious project, being one of 10 such centers nationwide, in recognition of its contributions to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in the country.

The MOU signing event, chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, saw the presence of officials from the Ministry of Heavy Industries, C4i4 Pune, and IUST, including Prof. A H Moon, Prof. W Bari, and Mr Sameer Wazir, the Director of CIED, along with heads of Engineering Departments.

Prof. Romshoo underscored IUST's commitment to bridging academia with industry and business to nurture skilled human resources. He highlighted the opportunity for India, particularly Jammu and Kashmir, to emerge as a manufacturing hub through digital transformation, thus enhancing the global competitiveness of local industries.

PULWAMA — The Department of Journalism & Mass Communication (DJMC) at the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) hosted a special guest lecture today focusing on "Careers for Media Students in the Government Sector: Indian Information Service (IIS)." This event was part of the University-Industry Connect initiative.

Keynote speaker Mr Ishfaq Ahmad Shah (IIS), News Editor at Akash Vani, Srinagar, shared valuable insights during the session, which was organized in collaboration with the Industry Connect vertical under the Office of the Dean Outreach at IUST.

Mr Shah provided students with a comprehensive overview of the IIS exams, drawing from his personal journey in the prestigious service. He encouraged students to consider pursuing careers in the Indian Information Service, emphasizing its importance in shaping the nation's media landscape.

Dr Mujeeb Liyakat, Head of DJMC, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the vast array of career opportunities available to mass communication students. Dr Monisa Qadiri, Departmental Coordinator of Industry Connect and Senior Assistant Professor at DJMC, conducted the proceedings.

PULWAMA — Two awareness programs on Start-Up Policy 2024-27 and Breast Cancer were organized today, highlighting critical initiatives for budding entrepreneurs and healthcare vigilance under the auspices of the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST).

The event about on Start-Up Policy, spearheaded by the CIED-IUST Foundation and the Department of Management Studies, was convened at the direction of the Vice Chancellor to disseminate knowledge regarding the newly introduced J&K Start-Up Policy.

Emphasizing its transformative potential, Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, alongside Prof. Pervaiz Ahmad Mir, Director CIED, underscored the policy's provisions such as seed support, venture capital opportunities, and support for student entrepreneurs.

Led by experts Dr Natasha Thakur and Dr Qayinat, discussions centered on the rising incidence, early screening significance, and advances in treatment modalities.

Prof. Shakil A. Romshoo chaired an interactive session between interdisciplinary PURSE researchers and medical experts, stressing the importance of collaborative research in combating such ailments.

Prof. A.H. Moon and Prof. Ayub Qadri engaged with attendees, highlighting the imperative of early detection and the promise offered by emerging technologies in medical sciences.

SRINAGAR — The female students commuting through the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) buses from various areas, including Siligam Aishmuqam, Aarigola Aishmuqam, Seer Humdan, Hutmurah Anantnag, Mattan, and KP Road Anantnag, found themselves stranded as the IUST transport department abruptly halted services without providing any explanation.

The sudden disruption has raised concerns among the student community as it impacts the accessibility of education for female students in these regions. The affected students were left bewildered as the IUST buses, which they heavily rely on for transportation, came to an unexpected standstill.

The IUST transport department's decision to delist the route to Seer Hamdan Anantnag has further fuelled frustration among the students.

This move appears to contradict the much-hyped initiatives of the LG administration like Ladli Betti and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, aimed at promoting education and ensuring the welfare of female students.

Students affected by this sudden suspension of services express their disappointment, emphasizing the impact on their academic pursuits.

"The lack of transport facility from the IUST transport department has left all the students in the dark. We seek answers from the administration as to why our routes were excluded from the route plan of the university buses," the agitated students told Srinagar-based news agency KDC.

Earlier, the IUST administration said that some of the buses have been condemned in light of the government's directions. "Also, we will not be offering transport to our employees, as they are getting a good monthly transport allowance," a top official of IUST said.

He said that the university is in the process of procurement of new buses and the matter is being expeditiously followed so that we can provide transport facilities to the remaining students who may not be interested in availing of hostel accommodation.

AWANTIPORA — Faza Zainab, a distinguished alumna of the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora, has been bestowed with the title of Outstanding Media Person by the Jammu and Kashmir Administration in a ceremony marking Republic Day 2024.

SRINAGAR — The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) located in Awantipora has officially declared the observance of winter vacations commencing from January 1, 2024, and continuing through to February 11, 2024, university officials confirmed on Wednesday.

As per a notification released by the university administration, the winter break will span from the start of the new year until the specified date in February. However, it was highlighted that ongoing examinations and other academic or administrative activities will continue as scheduled during this vacation period.

The announcement of the winter break aims to provide students, faculty, and staff with an opportune period for rest and rejuvenation amidst the academic calendar. Despite the designated vacation period, the university ensures the continuation of essential academic functions and assessments.

The varsity's decision aligns with the traditional observance of winter breaks in educational institutions, allowing the university community to recharge before resuming academic activities.

AWANTIPORA — The Health Centre of Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), in collaboration with Government Medical College, Anantnag, successfully organized a blood donation camp on the university campus today.

The event received an overwhelming response from students, faculty, university staff, officers, and members of the local community, resulting in the donation of approximately a hundred units of blood.

Under the distinguished patronage of Vice Chancellor Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, the programme commenced with an inauguration ceremony that highlighted the significance of organizing such blood donation camps, emphasizing how they bring forth happiness and promote harmony. PULWAMA — Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora on Thursday rolled out the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY 4.0) and inaugurated Kalam Academy of Skill Development and Training.

On this occasion, Alok Kumar (IRS), who was the chief guest, congratulated the IUST for its efforts towards the implementation of the skilling mission through the government's flagship programme.

Mr Alok Kumar said that the programme aims to bridge the skill gaps and guarantee the employability of the youth and contribute to the country’s march towards progress and prosperity. He further said that nothing is more empowering than acquiring skills which open up opportunities.

In his address, Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo expressed thanks to the government for lending support to IUST in its initiatives. He said that in this age of innovation and entrepreneurship, where rapid technological advances create skill gaps, initiatives like PMKVY are significant.

Mr Shakil Romshoo outlined different measures being taken in the IUST at its Centre of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development, Design and Innovation Centre and cited the accomplishments made towards supporting the start-up ecosystem and inculcating innovative spirit among the youth.

He also spoke about National Education Policy 2020 implementation and said that emphasis at IUST is being laid on multidisciplinary learning, inculcation of innovative spirit, the introduction of vocational courses in different areas of contemporary relevance etc.

Later, the chief guest took a tour of the different facilities of the campus and appreciated the growth of the university. He visited CIED, departments of Food Sciences and Technology and Computer Science and Engineering and inaugurated the skill development programmes.

The Principal Secretary of the Higher Education Department appreciated IUST on its achievements and congratulated the Vice-chancellor and Director CIED for a 3.5-star ranking awarded by the Institution's Innovation Council of the Ministry of Education, GoI, in recognition of the efforts towards the promotion of entrepreneurship, innovation and start-up culture.

SRINAGAR — The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has stayed the Contractual Advertisement Notice of the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), upholding that a contractual faculty cannot be replaced with another contractual faculty.

The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir stayed the Advertisement Notification published on 19-12-2022 vide Adv No: IUST/DAA-Acad/22/2031, inviting applications for fresh recruitment of contractual teaching faculty at the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST).

The High Court of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh vide Order No: WPC-3004/2022 and WPC-3067/2022 dated 30-12-2022 strongly stayed the recruitment process of the contractual faculties in the subjects like the English Language and Literature, Management Studies, Mathematics, Islamic Studies, and Architecture as the petitioners were aggrieved of the notification, saying that as per the Supreme Court, a contractual faculty can’t be replaced by another contractual faculty.

The court order reads, “The impugned advertisement notice to the extent of inviting applications for the posts of Assistant Professors (in the subjects mentioned above) is stayed and the respondents are directed to maintain the present status of the petitioners.” The said order was issued by the court of Justice Sanjay Dhar.

The faculty members/petitioners had approached the High Court seeking justice when the university issued the uncalled-for notification through which their services were threatened and their future was put in the dark. It was only after this judgment that the said faculty members heaved a sigh of relief.

While contacting the petitioner, it was found that they have full faith in the Court of justice. They are hopeful now that their livelihood is safeguarded.

One of the faculty members, who has been working as a contractual Assistant Professor (English) for around the last six years, said that High Court gave a strong judgment in favor of the Contractual Assistant Professors of the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST).

Another petitioner, who is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Management Studies, expressed satisfaction over the judgment and hoped that the Islamic University of Science and Technology administration will no longer play with the future of highly qualified faculty members.

PULWAMA — Authorities at the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora announced on Monday that all departments of the varsity will be taking summer breaks beginning on July 6.

A spokesperson from the IUST said that the summer vacations are scheduled from July 6 (Wednesday) to July 13 (Wednesday).

However, the official claimed that the university will continue to run properly with just classwork being closed.

It is in place to mention here that the eight-day summer break will also include the holidays which were to be observed on Eid al-Adha on July 10 and 11.

AWANTIPORA — Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday addressed the National Academia-Industrial Conclave at the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST).

During his visit to IUST, the Lt Governor inaugurated several key infrastructure facilities on the University campus, including the Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development (CIED), Food Technology Block, SSM Memorial College of Nursing & Medical Technology, and Food Testing Lab.

The Lt Governor also presided over the signing of several MoUs between IUST and Industry Associations, Businesses, Institutions and the Government.

In his address, the Lt Governor termed the Conclave a path-breaking initiative to bridge the gap between academia and industry. "Collaboration with stakeholders will help in building an enabling environment for innovation to flourish in UT of J&K," the Lt Governor said.

"A strong Academic-Industry collaboration will bring a meaningful change in the private and public sector, besides providing an opportunity to promote innovation, work on new model of IEC - Innovate, Evolve and Commercialize the relevant technology, building new knowledge to meet the needs of the future," added the Lt Governor.

Terming startups as a true game-changer for economic growth, the Lt Governor said that the government is determined to provide incubation and seed funding support to brilliant ideas and solutions.

“Our aim is to build a strong ecosystem for nurturing innovation and startups in J&K and the synergies between industrial and academic establishments will encourage and empower young innovators and boost private investment in the startups,” the Lt Governor said.

The Lt Governor asked all stakeholders to focus on affordability, sustainability of innovative products, and creation of Industry Innovation clusters to encourage young entrepreneurs and drive job creation.

"Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India’s startups are making their place in the global market. India is now ranked third in the world in terms of innovation and startups after the US and China," the Lt Governor observed.

The Lt Governor entrusted the Industry and academic institutions like IUST, Kashmir University, Jammu University, NIT, and IIT to encourage the culture of innovation and provide institutionalized handholding to the budding innovators and researchers.

"We have turned the red tape into the red carpet. Under the guidance of Prime Minister, UT is witnessing unprecedented industrial investment. The impact of industrial growth will soon reflect in other sectors too. Academic-Industry collaboration and initiatives like CIED will provide an opportunity to promote innovation and ensure market linkage," said the Lt Governor.

“I assure the young innovators that if your idea has potential, the government will extend every possible support to transform your ideas into entrepreneurship ventures,” added the Lt Governor.

The Lt Governor also congratulated the IUST on the new Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development (CIED) which aims to accelerate innovation, incubation, entrepreneurship among youth with a prime focus on Women Entrepreneurs.

The Lt Governor further urged the representatives of the Industry and Academia to launch an annual Vice Chancellor's Innovation Challenge to encourage and reward new ideas.

Speaking on the recent decision of age relaxation in the upper age limit for the ensuing Jammu and Kashmir Combined Competitive Examination (JKCCE), the Lt Governor said that the government is sensitive toward the needs and aspirations of the people, especially the youth of J&K.

As many as 16 startups were provided seed capital funding of Rs 5 Lakh each for a period of two years, and Training and Development programmes were initiated for local food manufacturing, service and agro-industrial units. More than 125 industrial units of the UT are participating in food technology training, digital marketing, and leadership development for budding entrepreneurs, it was informed.

On the occasion, the Lt Governor also interacted with the innovators who briefed him about their startups developed under the aegis of CIED, IUST. He also handed over sanction letters to startups and released IUST’s Newsletter.

A documentary on CIED startup innovations was also showcased at the event.

Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to Lt Governor, while speaking on the occasion, congratulated the students, faculty and management of IUST for its endeavours for building an ecosystem of innovations. He stressed on feedback mechanism, result-oriented and outcome-based approach while applying course connection mechanism for obtaining the best results.

Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary while addressing the students said that innovations should be aimed at meeting the needs of the society in new and easy ways. He highlighted the major inventions done in human history and said that once India was the melting pot of the world in terms of innovation. He stressed on the students and innovators for exploring the scope and scale of inventions that could benefit the people.

Padma Shri Prof Anil Gupta, founder GIAN, while speaking on the occasion complimented IUST for holding the two-day national level Academia-Industry Conclave. He laid thrust on identifying the underutilized resources and explained the significance and need of developing open innovations that are accessible to all.

Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir also spoke on the occasion and extended his congratulations on the Conclave. He said that the technical and training sessions would be highly useful for students in learning new skills and developing their knowledge.
