PULWAMA — In a series of coordinated operations, Pulwama Police have achieved significant breakthroughs across multiple fronts, arresting thieves and drug peddlers as well as seizing tippers for illegal mining.

In the first operation, Pulwama Police arrested three individuals involved in a theft case reported by Irshad Ahmad Dar, a resident of Lajoora Pulwama.

The theft, which occurred at an under-construction Sheep Building in Dangerpora Pulwama, led to the registration of FIR No. 163/2024. Following intensive questioning, the suspects—Sheraz Ahmad Bhat of Keller, Mehrooz Mushtaq and Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir of Dangerpora—confessed to the crime.

The stolen water pump was recovered, and the investigation remains ongoing.

In a separate anti-drug operation, Pulwama Police set up a checkpoint at Gangoo Pulwama, resulting in the arrest of two notorious drug peddlers.

The police intercepted a truck driven by Sukhdev Singh of Punjab, recovering 15 kg of poppy straw. Further investigation led to the arrest of Mohammad Yousuf Gadda of Gangoo, who was also found in possession of a substantial quantity of poppy straw.

FIR No. 166/2024 has been registered, and police anticipate further arrests as part of their intensified crackdown on drug trafficking in the area.

Adding to these successful operations, Pulwama Police continued their ongoing drive against illegal mining, seizing two tippers used in the illicit extraction of materials.

The vehicles, bearing registration numbers JK01R-9135 and JK05C-5844, were seized by the Police Post Rahmoo, though the drivers managed to flee the scene. FIR No. 66/2024 has been registered, and efforts are underway to apprehend the culprits.

Meanwhile, the police have urged the people to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.

PULWAMA — A swift response from the Fire and Emergency Services Department averted a potential disaster as a fire raged through the grass fields in the Dangarpora area of Pulwama district on Wednesday. The incident marked the 14th fire in Kashmir in the last 10 days, with experts attributing the surge to an ongoing dry spell in the valley.

The fire, which was first noticed by a local car showroom owner near the spot, quickly engulfed the grassy expanse, prompting a call to emergency services. The Fire and Emergency Services Department dispatched a team to the scene, and their prompt action helped contain the flames and prevent any loss of life or major property damage.

The dry spell in the region has heightened the risk of wildfires, as parched vegetation becomes susceptible to ignition. Experts are urging residents to exercise caution and report any signs of fire immediately to prevent the escalation of such incidents.

The 14 fire incidents in the past 10 days have put a strain on the resources of the firefighting teams, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance during this period of increased fire risk. Local authorities are also exploring measures to mitigate the impact of the dry spell, including public awareness campaigns and stricter enforcement of fire safety regulations.

While the fires have been successfully contained thus far, concerns linger over the potential for more outbreaks given the persistent dry conditions in the valley. Authorities are advising residents to adopt fire-safe practices and cooperate with emergency services to ensure a swift and effective response to any future incidents.

PULWAMA — A three-day cleanliness drive under the Shramdaan Shivir program was on Monday organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra Pulwama in south Kashmir's Pulwama district.

The drive was kick-started by Mr. Bilal Ahmad Rather, President of Municipal Council Pulwama, at Dangerpora area of Pulwama town.

Mr. Bilal in his address stressed upon the youth to develop the spirit of volunteerism and to participate in these programmes for the service of the community which can have a large far-reaching impact on the development and prosperity of the common people.

Youth Club volunteers, National Youth Corps, volunteers from Municipal Committee Pulwama and other community members also participated in the programme.

The drive started from Dangerpora Pulwama where a spring and its surrounding area were cleaned. The local community members appreciated the drive and demanded that these kinds of drives should be done in the future as well.

The aim of the program, according to the organizers, is to create and deliver community assets for the benefit of the common people.
