Srinagar: Chairman Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Geelani Wednesday asked the government to rehabilitate the flood survivors before winter or allow him to travel outside India to collect aid and rehabilitate them.
He said government should put in place concrete measures to rehabilitate the flood-affected traders, farmers and people who have been rendered homeless before the winter starts and 'if they are not in a position to do so then they should issue me travel documents so that he can collect donations in the foreign countries and could help his people to start a new life and compensate their losses'.
He further said that the failure of the government machinery and delay in the rehabilitation works is giving an impression that the government is either not in that position or they deliberately don’t want to do that and they want to do politics over this human issue.
Geelani said that world community particularly Muslim countries have taken serious notice of the destruction caused by the floods and the response which they received to their appeal for the help is very encouraging.
"I believe that I will collect as much donation for the Jammu and Kashmir in the foreign countries with which we can rehabilitate and compensate the losses within a short span of time," he said.
Geelani said that the situation created by the recent floods was a huge natural disaster and the government should not have any hesitation in issuing my travel documents. "And if they will not issue the documents, it will be safe to concur that they are not serious in rehabilitation of the people," he said.
He said that by helping the flood victims, 'government is not going to do any favor to them because on one hand from last six decades India is looting the natural resources of Jammu and Kashmir and on the other hand the government collects huge taxes from the traders and shopkeepers who were affected by recent flood.”
The APHC chairman said: "India is occupying Jammu and Kashmir with the help of its military might so it is their responsibility to compensate the flood affected people for their losses and rehabilitate them as soon as possible."
