Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday claimed to have averted a major damage to the banks of river Jhelum that could have happened due to a Chinar tree that fell onto it in Srinagar city.
Sources said that the tree fell on the river bank near Presentation Convent School in Srinagar “endangering breech in the bund”. “Chief Minister Omar Abdullah this night after receiving the message rushed to the spot and directed immediate removal of Chinar”, an official statement mentioned, adding that the operation for the same was started under his supervision.
“The removal of the Chinar tree was being conducted on war-footing”, the statement added.
