Srinagar: The banned Kashmir University Students Union (KUSU) today called for boycotting youth Congress membership drive being carried out in the University of Kashmir these days.
In a statement issued here, the KUSU said: "It is not righteous and moral for the youth to involve themselves in these activities when thousands of youth are languishing in jails."
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is to visit Kashmir on September 26, would be attending a function at the University.
"It is ironic that University administration not only allows but also promotes the political activities of Indian states. Even though it bans the student welfare activities," the statement said.
The banned student body questioned the authorities over demolishing its office last year during a night operation.
Meanwhile, president of Kashmir University Research Scholar Association, Zahoor Ahmad said, ''We will only support the academic activities at the university."
It is a political event, it would not benefit the scholars, students and the university, he added.
