SRINAGAR — The Jammu and Kashmir administration has announced a series of precautionary measures, including the closure of educational institutions, suspension of employee leave, and cancellation of Haj flights, in response to the prevailing security situation in the region.
The Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir has ordered the closure of all educational institutions, including schools and colleges, in Baramulla, Kupwara, and Gurez on May 8 as a precautionary step. The directive also extends to schools near Awantipora and Srinagar Airport.
Authorities stated the decision was taken to ensure public safety.
In a separate order, the J&K Government has instructed all departments to refrain from sanctioning leave to employees, except in "exceptional circumstances."
An official memo directed Administrative Secretaries and Heads of Departments to ensure full manpower availability, signalling heightened operational readiness.
Meanwhile, the Haj Committee of India (HCoI) has suspended all Haj flights from Srinagar until May 9 due to the temporary closure of Srinagar Airport. The HCoI stated that alternate travel arrangements for pilgrims are being explored and urged affected individuals to stay in touch with the J&K State Haj Committee for updates.
Authorities have not specified the exact reasons behind the heightened measures but emphasized they are precautionary. Further updates are expected in the coming days.
